The NJCL Committee, in coordination with the University of Richmond, has decided to cancel this summer’s NJCL Convention in Virginia out of concern for the safety of all attendees.
We will instead host a virtual convention that will allow many students, including those who would have otherwise been unable to participate this summer, to attend. The NJCL officers, NSCL officers, and NJCL Committee are actively working to convert many convention staples such as elections, graphic/creative arts, academic tests, Certamen, That’s Entertainment!, and the Convention Ear to a digital format. More information and details about the virtual convention will be released soon. In the meantime, answers to frequently-asked questions are included below.
Like you, we love NJCL Convention and regret that it will not be held as planned. Please consider participating in this year’s virtual convention, and we will see you in person next summer at San Diego State University!
Q: I already registered and paid. Will I get a refund automatically, or do I need to request one?
A: You will automatically be refunded.
Q: I wasn’t going to be able to go to NJCL Convention, but now I can. Where do I register for this virtual convention? Is it too late?
A: Registration information is coming soon – be sure to watch for announcements on our social media pages and by email to sponsors.
Q: What will be the dates of the virtual convention?
A: The dates are unchanged: July 24 – 29.
Q: My favorite part of convention wasn’t in the list of things you gave as events you’re converting to digital. Will it be part of the online convention?
A: We can’t guarantee every part of a normal convention will be included in the virtual convention, but we will do our best to accommodate as many as possible. For specific inquiries, please email NJCL Convention Chair Liz Bouis (firstname.lastname@example.org).
