The American Classical League was founded in 1919 for the purpose of fostering the study of classical languages in the United States and Canada. Membership is open to any person who is committed to the preservation and advancement of our classical inheritance from Greece and Rome.

The American Classical League includes teachers of Latin, Greek, and Classics on elementary, secondary, and college levels. The League celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2019. 

ACL is a member of national and world-wide organizations that support Classics, Langauge Study or Humanities:
National Humanities Alliance (NHA); Joint National Committee on Languages-National Council for Languages and International Studies (JNCL-NCLIS); American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL); International Federation of Associations of Classical Studies (FIEC).

The benefits of membership in ACL include access to the latest grant information, comprehensive teaching materials, and job placement resources for Classics teachers and teachers of classical studies and Greek and Latin languages in the classroom.
